One thing we all love about hockey is that it's a game of passion, which usually leads to quite a bit of aggression. But no one ever wants to see someone hurt, especially by dirty plays that take away from the beauty of our game.
Last night, the Minnesota Wild were hosting the Calgary Flames, and the Wild's Ryan Hartman received a 4 minute penalty. Usually when a player is in the box for 4 minutes it's due to a high sticking doubling minor, but this was not the case, and one could argue that Hartman deserved a lot more, which the NHL's Department of Player Safety will most likely announce today.
On the play, the whistle blows, but Ryan Hartman continues to deliver a two-hand slash directly to the hands of Flames Rasmus Andersson. Then Hartman proceeds to sucker punch Trevor Lewis in the face.
Check it out:
On the play, Hartman receives a minor for slashing and an additional minor for cross checking.
