The Anaheim Ducks are building a solid young core, and after extending Troy Terry this summer, many expected Trevor Zegras to be next. That may not be the case however.
Contract dispute upcoming?
Despite Terry's extension, the Ducks don't seem inclined to make a move to lock down their young star, and teams around the league are taking very close notice.
According to a recent report, the Buffalo Sabres are keeping an eye on the situation, with the hopes of landing the rising star to join their young core of Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power and Peyton Krebs.
The Ducks are being choosy [with Zegras]? They want to break it? I heard there's a team looking that way and it's the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabers have to make the playoffs this year and you solve your problem by bringing Zegras.
A polarizing star
Since joining the NHL, Zegras' on ice talents and flair have become a major talking point around the league, and while many see it as a good thing for the young fans around the world, there's plenty of veterans that have an issue with him.
In 2022-23, Zegras posted career highs in games played, goals and points, and if the Ducks aren't willing to give him the big deal that we saw from Terry, no one could blame him for wanting out, and now, teams are ready to pounce.
